29 | 29 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
---|
30 | 30 | | of the same, as follows: |
---|
31 | 31 | | 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after |
---|
32 | 32 | | 2section 8M the following section:- |
---|
33 | 33 | | 3 Section 8N. The registry of motor vehicles shall permit a person submitting an |
---|
34 | 34 | | 4application under sections 8, 8B, or 8E of this chapter or section 34B of chapter 138 to designate |
---|
35 | 35 | | 5“X” for gender in lieu of “male” or “female” on an application for a driver’s license, learner’s |
---|
36 | 36 | | 6permit, identification card or liquor purchase identification card. No documentation shall be |
---|
37 | 37 | | 7required for such designations. |
---|
38 | 38 | | 8 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any other general or specific law to the contrary, the |
---|
39 | 39 | | 9registry of motor vehicles shall, not later than November 1, 2025, permit a person submitting an 2 of 2 |
---|
40 | 40 | | 10application under sections 8, 8B, or 8E of chapter 90 or section 34B of chapter 138 to designate |
---|
41 | 41 | | 11“X” for gender in lieu of “male” or “female” on an application for a driver’s license, learner’s |
---|
42 | 42 | | 12permit, identification card or liquor purchase identification card. No documentation shall be |
---|
43 | 43 | | 13required for such designations. |
---|
44 | 44 | | 14 SECTION 3. The registrar of motor vehicles may promulgate regulations to implement |
---|
45 | 45 | | 15this act. The regulations may be amended, as appropriate, to allow for a person submitting an |
---|
46 | 46 | | 16application under sections 8, 8B or 8E of chapter 90 or section 34B of chapter 138 to designate |
---|
47 | 47 | | 17“X” and additional designations for gender in lieu of “X”, “male” or “female” if such additional |
---|
48 | 48 | | 18designation appropriately reflects the gender identity of applications. |
---|
49 | 49 | | 19 SECTION 4. Section 1 shall take effect on November 1, 2025. |
