By Representative Capano of Lynn, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3490) of Peter 
Capano that certain bridges and landmarks be illuminated in gold on Memorial Day as part of 
Operation Gold Star to recognize those lost in military service. Veterans and Federal Affairs.

An Act recognizing Gold Star Families.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Section 1: Section 9 of Chapter 115 of the General Laws is amended by adding said 
2Section 9A:
3 Whereas, Gold Star Families have sacrificed greatly for our Nation, landmarks and 
4bridges across the Commonwealth will be illuminated in gold on Memorial Day as part of 
5Operation Gold Star to recognize those lost in military service.
6 Operation Gold Star shall be a collaboration between the legislature, Military Friends 
7Foundation, MA Department of Transportation and MA Department of Veterans Services. 
8Landmarks and bridges shall include, but not be limited to, The Gold Star Families Bridge in 
9Lynn, The Zakim Bridge in Boston, Longfellow Bridges in Boston, Fore River Bridge in 
10Quincy/Weymouth, and Burns Bridge in Shrewsbury/Worcester.
