The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to annuities for widows and surviving relatives of veterans. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Section 6B of Chapter 115 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 2Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 30, the following:- Any applications 3submitted by an eligible veteran shall be valid until the death of the veteran. 4 SECTION 2. Section 6B of Chapter 115 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 5Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “spouse”, in line 47, the 6following:- The parents and eligible surviving spouses of veterans shall reapply for said annuity 7once a calendar year, provided further that during the first year they apply they shall be eligible 8to receive the annuity compensation that they would have been eligible for the year after the 9death of the veteran. 10 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any special or general law to the contrary, any eligible 11veterans, parents, or surviving spouses who did not receive an annuity due to failure to apply for 12said benefits shall retroactively be eligible to apply for 90 days following enactment of this act.
