| 23 | 23 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the same, as follows: |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 1 SECTION 1. The mayor of the City of Methuen may, if the mayor deems necessary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 2following the recommendation of the Chief of Police, appoint individuals, who have served as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 3police officers and who are currently certified by Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 4Commission, to serve as special police officers for the purpose of performing traffic details. |

| 29 | 29 | | 5 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding section 1 of chapter 32 of the General Laws or any other |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 6general or special law to the contrary, the maximum age for a special police officer appointed in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 7the City of Methuen shall be 70 years of age. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 8 SECTION 3. Special police officers who are between the ages of 65-70 years of age shall |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 9only perform traffic details in the City of Methuen. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 10 SECTION. 4. No further deductions shall be made from the regular compensation of any |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 11individual over the age of 65 appointed pursuant to this Act under chapter 32 of the General |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 12Laws and, upon retirement, said individuals appointed pursuant to this Act shall receive a 2 of 2 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 13superannuation retirement allowance equal to the allowance to which he would have been |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 14entitled had he retired upon reaching the age of 65. |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 15 SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
