The undersigned legislators and/or citizens respectfully petition for the adoption of the accompanying bill:
An Act authorizing the town of Warwick to continue the employment of David A. Shoemaker as 
police chief until a maximum age of 70.

bill, House, No. 4908) of Susannah M. Whipps and Joanne M. Comerford (by vote of the town) 
that the town of Warwick be authorized to continue the employment of David A. Shoemaker as 
police chief of said town notwithstanding the maximum age requirement. Public Service. [Local

An Act authorizing the town of Warwick to continue the employment of David A. Shoemaker as 
police chief until a maximum age of 70.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, David A. 
2Shoemaker, the police chief with the police department of the town of Warwick, may continue in 
3such position until he reaches 70 years of age, the date of his retirement or he is relieved of his 
4duties, whichever occurs first; provided, however, that David A. Shoemaker is mentally and 
5physically capable of performing the duties of the position. The town may require, at its own 
6expense, that David A. Shoemaker be examined by an impartial physician designated by the 
7town to determine his capability. No further deductions shall be made from the regular 
8compensation of David A. Shoemaker pursuant to chapter 32 of the General Laws and upon 
9retirement David A. Shoemaker shall receive a superannuation retirement allowance equal to that 
10which he would have been entitled had he retired upon reaching the age of 65.
11 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
