[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 610 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act requiring instruction in CPR and the use of defibrillators for high school graduation. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 The second paragraph of section 1L of chapter 69 of the General Laws, as appearing in 2the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding, in line 30, after the word 3“resuscitation” the following− 4 and the use of automatic external defibrillators. Instruction in cardiopulmonary 5resuscitation and the use of automatic external defibrillators must be the most current national 6evidence−based Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines and incorporate psychomotor skills 7development into the instruction. “Psychomotor skills” is defined as the use of hands-on 8practicing and skills testing to support cognitive learning. A licensed teacher shall not be 9required to be a certified trainer of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to facilitate, provide or 2 of 2 10oversee such instruction for non-certification. Courses which result in a certification being 11earned are required to be taught by an authorized CPR/AED instructor.
