_______________
An Act relative to municipal equity in Steamship Authority operations.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 The fourth paragraph of section 3 of chapter 701 of the acts of 1960, as most recently
2amended by section 3 of chapter 429 of the acts of 2002, is hereby further amended by striking
3out the second and third sentences and inserting the following sentence:- The votes of the
4members of the authority shall be weighted such that the county of Dukes County member's vote
5shall count as 35 per cent of the whole; the Nantucket member's vote shall count as 35 per cent
6of the whole; and the Barnstable, Falmouth and New Bedford members' votes shall each count as
710 per cent of the whole, to the end that the votes of the county of Dukes County and Nantucket
8members, if cast on the same side of any motion placed before the authority, shall pass or defeat
9that motion, provided, however, that a vote of greater than 50 per cent of the weighted vote and a
10vote from a town whose vote is weighted under 15 per cent shall be necessary for any action
11taken by the authority.
