2828 An Act to promote transparency of facial recognition and driver's license photos.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby
3232 2amended by adding the following section:-
3333 3 Section 8N. The registrar of motor vehicles shall post notices in conspicuous locations at
3434 4all department driver licensing offices, make written information available to all applicants at
3535 5department driver licensing offices, and provide information on the department web site
3636 6regarding commonwealth investigative or law enforcement officers’ searches of driver’s license
3737 7and ID photos through targeted face recognition. The notices, written information, and online
3838 8information must address how officers' use and access targeted face recognition in criminal
3939 9investigations.
