| 29 | 29 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of the same, as follows: |

| 31 | 31 | | 1 SECTION 1. Option (d) of section 12 of chapter 32 of the General Laws, as appearing in |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 2the 2020 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the words “or $500”, in line 233, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 3the following words:- "or $750". |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 4 SECTION 2. Said option (d) of said section 12 of said chapter 32, as so appearing, is |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 5hereby further amended by inserting after the word “commission.”, in line 258, the following |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 6paragraph:- |

| 37 | 37 | | 7 Beginning July 1, 2023, the normal monthly member-survivor allowance provided for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 8under this option to a spouse of a deceased member shall not be less than $750 for members of |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 9the state teachers’ and state employees’ retirement system. The provisions of this paragraph shall 2 of 2 |

| 40 | 40 | | 10take effect for the members of a retirement system of any other political subdivision by a |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 11majority vote of the board of such system and by the local legislative body. For the purpose of |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | 12this paragraph, local legislative body shall mean a town meeting for a town system, the city |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | 13council subject to the provisions of its charter for a city system, the county retirement board |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 14advisory council for a county system, the regional retirement board advisory council for a |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | 15regional system, the district members for a district system and the governing body of an authority |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | 16for an authority system. Acceptance shall be deemed to have occurred upon the filing of a |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | 17certification of such vote with the commission. |
