2828 An Act relative to partial payment of fines relating to driver’s license suspension or revocation.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 SECTION 1. Section 33 of chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking
3232 2out the thirty-seventh paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraphs:-
3333 3 (37) The registrar shall permit any person owing fees related to multiple suspensions or
3434 4revocations of any license or right to operate a motor vehicle - to enter into a monthly payment
3535 5plan with the registrar to pay any fees related to the reinstatement of said license or right to
3636 6operate a motor vehicle; provided, however, that the minimum monthly payment due shall be
3737 7$25.00. The registrar may accept automatic monthly payments by credit or debit card on file with
3838 8the registrar or payments made by check or money order received by mail or in person. Upon
3939 9receipt of the first payment due on a monthly payment plan established pursuant to this
4040 10paragraph the registrar may issue a conditional reinstatement of said license or right to operate a 2 of 2
4141 11motor vehicle if the person is otherwise qualified to be granted said license or right to operate a
4242 12motor vehicle. The registrar shall revoke a conditional reinstatement of a license or right to
4343 13operate a motor vehicle if a required monthly payment is more than 30 days in arrears or for any
4444 14other violation of any general of special law. Upon payment in full of the fees owed the
4545 15registrar shall fully reinstate the license or right to operate a motor vehicle if the person is
4646 16otherwise qualified to be granted said license or right to operate a motor vehicle.
4747 17 (38) For the registration of every street rod, replica vehicle, specially constructed vehicle
4848 18or custom vehicle, as defined in section 2H consistent with the vehicle's intended use and the
4949 19requirements of 540 CMR 2.05.
