2727 An Act relative to Purple Heart registration plates.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 Section 2 of Chapter 90 of the general laws are hereby amended by removing the
3131 2sixteenth paragraph and inserting in its place the following:-
3232 3 The registrar shall furnish to owners of private passenger motor vehicles who are
3333 4veterans as defined in said clause Forty-third of said section 7 of said chapter 4 who have been
3434 5awarded the Order of the Purple Heart and upon evidence deemed satisfactory by the registrar,
3535 6distinctive registration plates bearing the image of a Purple Heart Medal for any private
3636 7passenger motor vehicle or motorcycle owned by such Purple Heart recipient. The first set of
3737 8such registration plates issued to an eligible veteran must be furnished at no charge. The registrar
3838 9may charge the established registration fee for private passenger motor vehicles or motorcycles
3939 10for each additional set of registration plates or emblems. A surviving spouse of a deceased 2 of 2
4040 11recipient of the Order of the Purple Heart may elect to retain such distinctive registration plates
4141 12for personal use upon payment of the established registration fee for private passenger motor
4242 13vehicles or motorcycles and an additional annual twenty-dollar fee until such time as such spouse
4343 14remarries or fails to renew or cancels such registration.
