2727 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2828 of the same, as follows:
2929 1 SECTION 1. Subsection (b) of section 3 of chapter 111C of the General Laws, as
3030 2appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after clause (3) the
3131 3following clause:-
3232 4 (3a) develop standards and promulgate regulations establishing criteria for determining
3333 5the extent to which the education and training requirements for veterans and military medics of
3434 6the United States Armed Forces are substantially equivalent to the education and training
3535 7requirements of emergency medical technicians in the commonwealth;
3636 8 SECTION 2. Said chapter 111C is hereby further amended by inserting after section 9 the
3737 9following section:-
3838 10 Section 9a. The department shall, based on the department standards and regulations
3939 11established pursuant to clause (3a) of subsection (b) of section 3, determine if veterans or
4040 12military medics of the United States Armed Forces applying for emergency medical technician, 2 of 2
4141 13hereinafter EMT, certification in the commonwealth have completed courses or training required
4242 14by the United States Armed Forces that is substantially equivalent to the state emergency training
4343 15requirements. If the department determines that a veteran or military medic applying for EMT
4444 16certification has completed substantially equivalent training, the department shall issue a waiver
4545 17of any course or training requirement for certification in the commonwealth, for any course or
4646 18training completed through the United States Armed Forces that is found, by the department, to
4747 19be substantially equivalent to the requirement of certification in the commonwealth; provided,
4848 20that the applicant submits sufficient proof of completion of the substantially equivalent training
4949 21to the department. No veteran or military medic applying for EMT certification who has
5050 22completed substantially equivalent emergency training with the United States Armed Forces, as
5151 23determined by the department, shall be required to complete the same training for EMT
5252 24certification or licensing in the commonwealth. The department shall issue a verification of EMT
5353 25training equivalency to the applicant upon a determination that the applicant’s training, including
5454 26any substantially equivalent training received in the United States Armed Forces and accepted
5555 27pursuant to this section, satisfies the commonwealth’s training requirements.
