2020 An Act investing in public higher education..
2121 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2222 of the same, as follows:
2323 1 SECTION 1. Section 2 (e) of Chapter 32A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020
2424 2Official Edition, is hereby amended in line 117 by inserting after the word “hours” the
2525 3following:- ; or a faculty member who teaches 2 classes of at least 3 or more credits per
2626 4semester, or 4 classes of at least 3 or more credits per calendar year at one or more of the public
2727 5institutions of higher education in the state, as set forth in section 5 of chapter 15A, including a
2828 6division of continuing education, regardless of funding source, including but not limited to
2929 7subsidiary account CC, and regardless of the term of employment or participation or membership
3030 8in a retirement system or plan; provided, that the commonwealth, not the public higher education
3131 9institutions, shall bear the cost.
3232 10 SECTION 2. For those employees included in section 1, the commonwealth, not the
3333 11public institutions of higher education, shall bear the cost of implementing coverage, using the
3434 12schedule set forth: 2 of 2
3535 13 (a) In the fiscal year in which this act is signed into law, the commonwealth shall pay 25
3636 14per cent of the premium costs for coverage of the faculty member.
3737 15 (b) In the first fiscal year following this act becoming law, the commonwealth shall pay
3838 1635 per cent of the premium costs for coverage of the faculty member.
3939 17 (c) In the following fiscal year the commonwealth shall pay 45 per cent of the premium
4040 18costs for coverage of the faculty member.
4141 19 (d) In the following fiscal year the commonwealth shall pay 55 per cent of the premium
4242 20costs for coverage of the faculty member.
4343 21 (e) In the following fiscal year the commonwealth shall pay 65 per cent of the premium
4444 22costs for coverage of the faculty member.
4545 23 (f) In the following fiscal year and all fiscal years proceeding, the commonwealth shall
4646 24pay 75 per cent of the premium costs for coverage of the faculty member.
