26	26	An Act amending the charter for the town of Nantucket.
27	27	Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
28	28	of the same, as follows:
29	29	1 SECTION 1. Section 2.2 of article II of the charter of the town of Nantucket, as
30	30	2established by chapter 289 of the acts of 1996, as amended, which is on file in the office of the
31	31	3archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is
32	32	4hereby amended by striking out the words “one year” and inserting in place thereof the following
33	33	5words:- three years.
34	34	6 SECTION 2. Section 2.4 of said article II of said charter is hereby amended by inserting
35	35	7after the words “Moderator shall appoint a clerk” the following words:- , who shall be a
36	36	8registered voter of the town.
37	37	9 SECTION 3. Subsection (b) of section 2.5 of said article II of said charter is hereby
38	38	10amended by inserting after the words “after the issuance of the warrant” the following words:-
39	39	11and make a copy of the warrant available on the town website. 2 of 3
40	40	12 SECTION 4. Subsection (c) of said section 2.5 of said article II of said charter is hereby
41	41	13amended by striking out the word “seven” and inserting in place thereof the following word:-
42	42	14fourteen.
43	43	15 SECTION 5. Said section 2.5 of said article II of said charter is hereby amended by
44	44	16inserting after subsection (c) the following new subsection:- (d) Notwithstanding any general or
45	45	17special law to the contrary, the Select Board shall insert in the warrant for the annual meeting all
46	46	18subjects the insertion of which has been requested of them in writing by fifty or more registered
47	47	19voters of the town and in the warrant for every special town meeting all subjects the insertion of
48	48	20which has been requested of them in writing by one hundred registered voters.
49	49	21 SECTION 6. Section 2.6 of said article II of said charter is hereby amended by inserting
50	50	22at the end of said section the following words:- The Moderator, in his or her sole discretion, may
51	51	23permit additional nonresident property owners to speak at any annual or special Town Meeting
52	52	24on matters before the Meeting.
53	53	25 SECTION 7. Paragraph (14) of subsection (d) of section 4.2 of article IV of said charter
54	54	26is hereby amended by striking out the words “before such warrants are submitted to the Select
55	55	27Board” and by inserting after the words “shall approve” the following words:- and sign.
56	56	28 SECTION 8. Subsection (a) of section 4.3 of said article IV of said charter is hereby
57	57	29amended by inserting after the words “shall appoint the” the following word:- department.
58	58	30 SECTION 9. Subsection (c) of section 5.4 of article V of said charter is hereby amended
59	59	31by inserting after the words “at least 20% of registered voters” the following words:- , as
60	60	32established by the Town Clerk as of March 1st of the previous year. 3 of 3
61	61	33 SECTION 10. Subsection (d) of said section 5.4 of said article V of said charter is
62	62	34hereby amended by striking out the numeral “7” after the words “does not resign within” and
63	63	35inserting in place thereof the following numeral:- 5.
64	64	36 SECTION 11. Said subsection (d) of said section 5.4 of said article V of said charter is
65	65	37hereby further amended by striking out the words “not less than 75 days after such certification
66	66	38date” and inserting after the words “the Select Board shall” the following words:- not less than
67	67	3975 days after such certification date.
68	68	40 SECTION 12. Subsection (f) of said section 5.4 of said article V of said charter is hereby
69	69	41amended by inserting after the words “For the recall of (name” the following words:- and title.
70	70	42 SECTION 13. Said subsection (f) of said section 5.4 of said article V of said charter is
71	71	43hereby further amended by inserting after the words “Against the recall of (name” the following
72	72	44words:- and title.
73	73	45 SECTION 14. Article VI of said charter is hereby amended by striking out Section 6.6 in
74	74	46its entirety.
