The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to hospital bad debts, claim denials and prompt payments. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Section 8(a) of Chapter 12C of the General Laws is amended by adding the following 2sentence after the first sentence thereof: 3 The center shall collect from each hospital its annual bad debt in total and broken down 4by the payer that insured the patient (including all commercial payers, government payers, and 5bad debt arising from services rendered to self-pay / uninsured patients); the claim denial rate by 6each commercial and government payer along with the annual dollar value of denied claims by 7payer; and an aged accounts receivable report by payer, and the center shall publish an annual 8report disclosing such data by hospital.
