29	29	An Act to promote public safety and better outcomes for young adults.
30	30	Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
31	31	of the same, as follows:
32	32	1 SECTION 1. Section 7 of chapter 4 of the General Laws, so appearing, is hereby
33	33	2amended by striking out the sixtieth clause as amended by Section 1 of Chapter 69 of the Acts of
34	34	32020, and inserting in place thereof the following clause:- Sixtieth, “Age of criminal majority”
35	35	4shall mean the age of “19.”
36	36	5 SECTION 2. Said clause of said section 7 of said chapter 4 is further amended by striking
37	37	6out the number “19,” inserting in place thereof the following number:- “20”
38	38	7 SECTION 3. Said clause of said section 7 of said chapter 4 is further amended by striking
39	39	8out the number “20,” and inserting in place thereof the following number:- “21” 2 of 18
40	40	9 SECTION 4. Section 167 of chapter 6 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020

86	86	55 SECTION 17. Section 58 of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020
87	87	56Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the words in lines 8 to 12, inclusive “that any
88	88	57such probation may be imposed until such child reaches age eighteen or age nineteen in the case
89	89	58of a child whose case is disposed of after he has attained his eighteenth birthday or age 20 in the
90	90	59case of a child whose case is disposed of after he attains his nineteenth birthday”, and inserting in
91	91	60place thereof the following words:- “that any such probation may, in the case of an offense that
92	92	61occurred prior to the child’s eighteenth birthday, be imposed until such child reaches age 18 or
93	93	6219 in the case of a child whose case is disposed of after the child has attained the child’s
94	94	63eighteenth birthday or age 20 in the case of a child whose case is disposed of after the child
95	95	64attains the child’s nineteenth birthday. In the case of an offense that occurred on or after the
96	96	65child’s eighteenth birthday, such probation may be imposed until such child reaches age 19 or
97	97	66age 20 in the case of a child whose case is disposed of after the child has attained the child’s
98	98	67nineteenth birthday, or age 21 in the case of a child whose case is disposed of after the child
99	99	68attains the child’s twentieth birthday.”
100	100	69 SECTION 18. Section 58 of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020
101	101	70Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the words “after he attains his twentieth
102	102	71birthday”, in line 12, the following words:- “or age 22 in the case of a child whose case is
103	103	72disposed of after the child attains the child’s twenty-first birthday” 5 of 18

112	112	81 SECTION 21. Section 58 of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020
113	113	82Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the words “nineteenth birthday”, in lines
114	114	8329 to 30, inclusive, the following words:- “In a case where the offense occurred on or after the
115	115	84child’s eighteenth birthday, the probationary or commitment period shall not be for a period
116	116	85longer than until such child attains the age of nineteen, or twenty in the case of a child whose
117	117	86case is disposed of after such child has attained their nineteenth birthday, or twenty-one in the
118	118	87case of a child whose case is disposed of after such child has attained their twentieth birthday.”
119	119	88 SECTION 22. Section 58 of chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020
120	120	89Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the words “ twentieth birthday” the
121	121	90following words:- “or twenty-two in the case of a child whose case is disposed of after such
122	122	91child has attained their twenty-first birthday.”
