28	28	An Act relative to the treatment of infantile cataracts.
29	29	Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
30	30	of the same, as follows:
31	31	1 SECTION 1. Chapter 32A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2006 Official
32	32	2Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following section:
33	33	3 Section 17J. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
34	34	4contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
35	35	5for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
36	36	6prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
37	37	7 SECTION 2. Chapter 118E, is hereby amended by adding the following section:
38	38	8 Section 61. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
39	39	9contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage 2 of 3
40	40	10for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
41	41	11prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
42	42	12 SECTION 3. Section 108 of Chapter 175 is hereby amended by adding the following
43	43	13section:
44	44	14 Section K. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
45	45	15contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
46	46	16for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
47	47	17prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
48	48	18 SECTION 4. Section 110 of Chapter 175 is hereby amended by adding the following
49	49	19section:
50	50	20 Section N. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
51	51	21contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
52	52	22for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
53	53	23prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
54	54	24 SECTION 5. Chapter 176A of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
55	55	25following section:
56	56	26 Section 8CC. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
57	57	27contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
58	58	28for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
59	59	29prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician. 3 of 3
60	60	30 SECTION 6. Chapter 176B of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
61	61	31following section:
62	62	32 Section 4CC. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
63	63	33contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
64	64	34for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
65	65	35prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
66	66	36 SECTION 7. Chapter 176G of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
67	67	37following section:
68	68	38 Section 4U. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
69	69	39contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
70	70	40for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
71	71	41prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
72	72	42 SECTION 8. Chapter 176I of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
73	73	43following section:
74	74	44 Section 12. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
75	75	45contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
76	76	46for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
77	77	47prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
