2828 An Act relative to the treatment of infantile cataracts.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 32A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2006 Official
3232 2Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following section:
3333 3 Section 17J. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
3434 4contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
3535 5for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
3636 6prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
3737 7 SECTION 2. Chapter 118E, is hereby amended by adding the following section:
3838 8 Section 61. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
3939 9contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage 2 of 3
4040 10for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
4141 11prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
4242 12 SECTION 3. Section 108 of Chapter 175 is hereby amended by adding the following
4343 13section:
4444 14 Section K. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
4545 15contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
4646 16for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
4747 17prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
4848 18 SECTION 4. Section 110 of Chapter 175 is hereby amended by adding the following
4949 19section:
5050 20 Section N. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
5151 21contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
5252 22for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
5353 23prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
5454 24 SECTION 5. Chapter 176A of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
5555 25following section:
5656 26 Section 8CC. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
5757 27contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
5858 28for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for

6464 34for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
6565 35prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
6666 36 SECTION 7. Chapter 176G of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
6767 37following section:
6868 38 Section 4U. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
6969 39contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
7070 40for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
7171 41prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
7272 42 SECTION 8. Chapter 176I of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the
7373 43following section:
7474 44 Section 12. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the
7575 45contrary, a health insurance policy that covers infantile cataract surgery must provide coverage
7676 46for aphakic lenses for treatment and rehabilitation. The coverage must include benefits for
7777 47prosthetic contact lenses or glasses, as required as medically necessary by the physician.
