2626 An Act to promote graduate medical education.
2727 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2828 of the same, as follows:
2929 1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled,
3030 2and by the authority of the same, as follows:
3131 3 Chapter 118E of the general laws is amended by adding at the end thereof, the following
3232 4new section:
3333 5 Section 83. MassHealth shall make graduate medical education payments for post-
3434 6graduate residency and other training in community-based primary care, behavioral health, and
3535 7other areas of physician or provider shortage in community-based healthcare settings in the
3636 8Commonwealth. The payments may support community-based training for other health
3737 9professionals, including but not limited to, family medicine nurse practitioners, dentists, and
3838 10dental hygienists. Eligible providers for said payments shall include community health centers.
3939 11MassHealth shall seek to obtain the maximum amount of federal reimbursement for said
4040 12payments. MassHealth shall promulgate and revise any rules or regulations necessary to 2 of 2
4141 13implement this provision within 180 days of enactment. MassHealth will prioritize placements at
4242 14community-based settings and organizations that serve a high public payer mix. MassHealth
4343 15shall consult with the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, Inc. regarding
4444 16implementation of this section.
