2727 An Act providing for a study on the trial court department.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 SECTION 1. The executive office of the trial court shall conduct a study on all of the
3131 2courts located in Barnstable county, Nantucket county and the county of Dukes County, which
3232 3shall include: (i) in consultation with the division of capital asset management and maintenance,
3333 4the status of all buildings, including general upkeep and their compliance with the federal
3434 5Americans with Disabilities Act and the Massachusetts victims’ bill of rights, established
3535 6pursuant to section 3 of chapter 258B of the General Laws; and (ii) staffing levels of all
3636 7departments, including clerks offices, facilities, court officers, interpreter services, support staff
3737 8and judges, taking into consideration caseloads in comparison to courts located elsewhere in the
3838 9commonwealth.
3939 10 SECTION 2. Not later than 1 year following the passage of this act, the executive office
4040 11of the trial court shall submit a report to the clerks of the house of representatives and the senate 2 of 2
4141 12and the joint committee on the judiciary, with the results of the study conducted pursuant to
4242 13section 1 together with recommendations for any necessary changes.
