27 | 27 | | Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to |
---|
28 | 28 | | establish forthwith a minimum wage for employees of airline catering companies, therefore it is |
---|
29 | 29 | | hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public |
---|
30 | 30 | | convenience. |
---|
31 | 31 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
---|
32 | 32 | | of the same, as follows: |
---|
33 | 33 | | 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, employees of an |
---|
34 | 34 | | 2airline catering company that holds a commercial services operating agreement or lease with the |
---|
35 | 35 | | 3Massachusetts Port Authority who perform work related to such agreement or lease on Logan |
---|
36 | 36 | | 4airport property or off-site shall be paid the same hourly wage as other service workers |
---|
37 | 37 | | 5including, but not limited to, wheelchair assistants, skycaps, ticket agents, janitorial staff, aircraft |
---|
38 | 38 | | 6and cabin cleaning and baggage handlers. |
---|
39 | 39 | | 7 For purposes of this requirement, “airline catering” shall include the preparation or |
---|
40 | 40 | | 8assembly of food, beverages, provisions or related supplies for delivery, and the delivery of such 2 of 2 |
---|
41 | 41 | | 9items, directly to aircraft at Logan airport or to a location on or near airport property for |
---|
42 | 42 | | 10subsequent delivery to aircraft. |
---|
43 | 43 | | 11 SECTION 2. Any change in the hourly wage of employees of an airline catering |
---|
44 | 44 | | 12company necessary to effectuate section 1 shall take effect within 30 days of the effective date of |
---|
45 | 45 | | 13this act. |
