2727 An Act promoting best practices in youth athletic coaching.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 Chapter 111 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby
3131 2amended by adding the following section:-
3232 3 Section 244. YOUTH COACHING BEST PRACTICES
3333 4 (a) Every municipal recreation department in the Commonwealth that oversees the
3434 5operation of youth athletic activities shall establish a best practices curriculum for all coaches
3535 6participating in municipal youth athletic activities. Said curriculum shall include, but not be
3636 7limited to, online or in-person trainings that promote consideration of youth athletes’ mental
3737 8health and the prevention of psychological and physical abuse related to participation in athletic
3838 9activities. 2 of 2
3939 10 (b) No individual shall coach an athletic activity unless the individual has completed, on
4040 11an annual basis, the best practices training curriculum adopted by the municipality.
