that the city of Taunton be authorized to continue the employment of police chief Edward J. 
Walsh, notwithstanding the maximum age requirement. Public Service. [Local Approval

An Act authorizing the city of Taunton to continue the employment of police chief Edward J. 
Walsh.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, Edward J. 
2Walsh, chief of police for the City of Taunton, may continue to serve in that position until 
3attaining the age of 70, the date of his retirement, or the date he is relieved of duties by the 
4appointing authority for the police chief of the City of Taunton, whichever occurs first; provided, 
5however that Edward J. Walsh is mentally and physically capable of performing the duties of his 
6office. The appointing authority may require at the city’s own expense, that Edward J. Walsh be 
7examined annually by a physician approved by said appointing authority, to determine such 
8physical and mental capability. Deductions shall continue to be made from the regular 
9compensation of Edward J. Walsh pursuant to chapter 32 of the General Laws. 
10 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on its passage.
