An Act further regulating the compensation of members of the General Court.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Chapter 3 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out sections 9B and 9C and 
2inserting in place thereof the following 2 sections:-
3 SECTION 9B. (a) The president of the senate and the speaker of the house of 
4representatives shall each receive for each regular annual session, in addition to the base 
5compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, additional regular compensation in the 
6amount of $50,000.
7 (b) The chair of the senate committee on ways and means and the chair of the house 
8committee on ways and means shall each receive for each regular annual session, in addition to 
9the base compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, additional regular compensation in 
10the amount of $35,000. The floor leaders of each of the major political parties in the senate and  2 of 2
11house of representatives shall each receive for each regular annual session, in addition to the base 
12compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, additional regular compensation in the 
13amount of $30,000. The president pro tempore of the senate and the speaker pro tempore of the 
14house of representatives shall each receive for each regular annual session, in addition to the base 
15compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, additional regular compensation in the 
16amount of $25,000.
17 (c) Each member of the general court shall receive for each regular annual session, in 
18addition to the base compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, additional regular 
19compensation in the amount of $15,000.
20 (d) The amount of additional regular compensation established pursuant to subsections 
21(a) to (c), inclusive, for each regular annual session, exclusive of the base compensation 
22calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, shall be adjusted biennially to reflect the aggregate 
23quarterly change in salaries and wages in the commonwealth for the most recent 8 quarters as 
24determined by the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the United States Department of Commerce; 
25provided, however, that the amount of additional regular compensation for any regular annual 
26session, exclusive of the base compensation calculated pursuant to Article CXVIII, shall not be 
27less than that provided in said subsections (a) to (c), inclusive.
28 SECTION 9C. Each member of the general court shall annually receive an amount for 
29expenses to be paid as follows: (i) for members whose primary residence is located at a distance 
30that is equal to or less than 50 miles from the state house, $12,500; and (ii) for members whose 
31primary residence is located at a distance that is greater than 50 miles from the state house, 
32$17,500.
