28 | 28 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
---|
29 | 29 | | of the same, as follows: |
---|
30 | 30 | | 1 Section 14A of chapter 85 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, |
---|
31 | 31 | | 2is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:- |
---|
32 | 32 | | 3 (h) Notwithstanding clause (5) of subsection (d), chapter 90 or any other general or |
---|
33 | 33 | | 4special law to the contrary, a vehicle that is owned or leased by a funeral home establishment, a |
---|
34 | 34 | | 5licensed or registered certified funeral director or a livery company, that is being operated by a |
---|
35 | 35 | | 6funeral director or an employee or independent contractor of a funeral home, may, without a |
---|
36 | 36 | | 7permit or assignment from the registrar of motor vehicles: (1) be equipped with mounted |
---|
37 | 37 | | 8flashing, rotating or oscillating purple, violet, amber, clear or white lights and alternating |
---|
38 | 38 | | 9flashing headlights or fog lights; and (2) display a flashing, rotating or oscillating red light in the |
---|
39 | 39 | | 10opposite direction from which the vehicle is proceeding when the vehicle is moving forward. 2 of 2 |

40 | 40 | | 11Such lights shall only be illuminated when the owner or operator is proceeding in a funeral |
---|
41 | 41 | | 12procession or responding to a fatality on behalf of the chief medical examiner. |

42 | 42 | | 13 All vehicles in a funeral procession may display the vehicle hazard warning signals, also |
