2727 An Act relative to licensed funeral home vehicles.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 Section 14A of chapter 85 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition,
3131 2is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:-
3232 3 (h) Notwithstanding clause (5) of subsection (d), chapter 90 or any other general or
3333 4special law to the contrary, a vehicle that is owned or leased by a funeral home establishment, a
3434 5licensed or registered certified funeral director or a livery company, that is being operated by a
3535 6funeral director or an employee or independent contractor of a funeral home, may, without a
3636 7permit or assignment from the registrar of motor vehicles: (1) be equipped with mounted
3737 8flashing, rotating or oscillating purple, violet, amber, clear or white lights and alternating
3838 9flashing headlights or fog lights; and (2) display a flashing, rotating or oscillating red light in the
3939 10opposite direction from which the vehicle is proceeding when the vehicle is moving forward. 2 of 2
4040 11Such lights shall only be illuminated when the owner or operator is proceeding in a funeral
4141 12procession or responding to a fatality on behalf of the chief medical examiner.
4242 13 All vehicles in a funeral procession may display the vehicle hazard warning signals, also
4343 14known as 4-way flashers.
