2929 An Act establishing a pilot program allowing for in-person payment of daily parking fees at
3030 certain commuter rail stations operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
3131 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3232 of the same, as follows:
3333 1 The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority shall create and administer an 18-month
3434 2pilot program allowing for the in-person payment of daily parking fees without the use of a
3535 3mobile telephone at the parking lots owned and operated by the authority at the Canton Junction,
3636 4Canton Center and Stoughton commuter rail stations. To administer the program, the authority
3737 5shall install and maintain for at least 18 months, at each location, 2 automated payment machines
3838 6that allow customers to make in-person payment for daily parking fees by cash or credit card
3939 7without the use of a mobile telephone or any other portable electronic device.
4040 8 The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority shall file a report on the efficacy of the
4141 9pilot program with the clerks of the senate and house of representatives and the house and senate 2 of 2
4242 10chairs of the joint committee on transportation. The report shall include an estimate of the
4343 11percentage of parking fees collected at each location under the pilot program and make
4444 12recommendations, if any, for the need to install and maintain similar automated payment
4545 13machines at other parking lots owned and operated by the authority. The report shall be filed no
4646 14sooner than 12 months after initiation of the pilot program but not later than 18 months after
4747 15initiation.
