29 | 29 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
---|
30 | 30 | | of the same, as follows: |

31 | 31 | | 1 SECTION 1. Section 2D of chapter 90, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is |
---|
32 | 32 | | 2hereby amended by inserting after the word “state”, at the end of subsection (a), the following |
---|
33 | 33 | | 3words:- “; or who (iii) reside in the commonwealth, purchased a private sale vehicle outside of |
---|
34 | 34 | | 4the commonwealth, and plan to return to the state. |
---|
35 | 35 | | 5 SECTION 2. Section 2D of chapter 90, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is |
---|
36 | 36 | | 6hereby further amended by striking out subsection (c) and inserting in place thereof the |
---|
37 | 37 | | 7following:- |
---|
38 | 38 | | 8 (3) Prior to the issuance of temporary plates to a purchaser who resides in the |
---|
39 | 39 | | 9commonwealth, who has purchased a private sale vehicle outside of the commonwealth and 2 of 2 |
---|
40 | 40 | | 10plans to return to the state, the purchaser shall furnish to the registrar sufficient proof of: (i) |
---|
41 | 41 | | 11residence in the commonwealth; (ii) a title that has been endorsed over to the purchaser; and (iii) |
---|
42 | 42 | | 12a valid insurance policy. |
---|
43 | 43 | | 13 (c) No person shall make application for a 20-day registration on the same vehicle more |
---|
44 | 44 | | 14than once within a 12-month period. The registrar may approve up to three 20-day registrations |
---|
45 | 45 | | 15for the same vehicle within a 12-month period, provided that each application is submitted by a |
---|
46 | 46 | | 16different person. |
---|
47 | 47 | | 17 (d) The registrar shall recognize all out of state temporary license plates for residents of |
---|
48 | 48 | | 18the commonwealth who have purchased their vehicle outside of the commonwealth and plan to |
---|
49 | 49 | | 19return to the state. |
---|
50 | 50 | | 20 (e) The registrar may issue and enforce regulations for the administration of this section. |
