| 26 | 26 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of the same, as follows: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 1 Chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 231 the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 2following section:- |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 3 Section 231A. (a) For the purposes of this section, the term ''surgical intensive care unit'' |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 4shall mean an intensive care unit, as defined in 105 CMR 130.020, within a hospital operated by |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 5the commonwealth, that specializes in post-surgical care. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 6 (b) Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, in all surgical intensive |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 7care units, hospital staff and visitors shall wear medical or surgical masks when in rooms or |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 8areas where a patient is present. The hospital shall post conspicuous signage to inform visitors of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 9this requirement. |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 10 (c) The health policy commission shall promulgate any regulations necessary to |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 11implement this section. |
