| 27 | 27 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of the same, as follows: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 1 Chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 51M the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2following section:- |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 3 Section 51N. A facility licensed pursuant to this chapter shall make any necessary |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 4alterations or upgrades to its buildings, facilities and other property to enhance the physical |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 5accessibility of the facility. The department shall promulgate regulations, pursuant to chapter |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 630A, to provide criteria for the necessity of physical accessibility enhancements and minimum |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 7standards for such enhancements, which shall include requirements for: (i) the installation of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 8automatic doors; (ii) the use of chairs with handles; (iii) the construction or retrofitting of wider |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 9hallways; (iv) the installation of railings in bathrooms; and (v) any other alterations or upgrades |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 10that the department deems necessary to enhancing the physical accessibility of facilities. |
