29 | 29 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
---|
30 | 30 | | of the same, as follows: |

31 | 31 | | 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 71 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after |
---|
32 | 32 | | 2section 2C, the following section:- |
---|
33 | 33 | | 3 "Section 2D. Each school district in the commonwealth shall provide instruction in |
---|
34 | 34 | | 4hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator as |
---|
35 | 35 | | 5part of the existing physical education or health education curriculum in grades 9 through 12. |
---|
36 | 36 | | 6The school district may select a no-cost, non-certification instructional program to meet this |
---|
37 | 37 | | 7requirement. The instructional program provided shall be modeled from an instructional program |
---|
38 | 38 | | 8established by a nationally recognized association with expertise in instruction in |
---|
39 | 39 | | 9cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator and include a |
---|
40 | 40 | | 10hands-on learning component for each participating student. Each public high school student |
---|
41 | 41 | | 11shall be required to participate in the instructional program as a requirement for high school |
---|
42 | 42 | | 12graduation; provided, however, that no student shall be required to take part in the instructional 2 of 2 |
---|
43 | 43 | | 13program if (i) a licensed physician certifies in writing that such participation would be injurious |
---|
44 | 44 | | 14to the student; or (ii) a parent or guardian for the student submits a written objection to the |
---|
45 | 45 | | 15student’s participation in the instructional program." |
---|
46 | 46 | | 16 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on September 1, 2025. |
