2727 An Act providing CPR and AED Education for All, AKA The CPR and AED Education for All
2828 Act.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 71 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after
3232 2section 2C, the following section:-
3333 3 "Section 2D. Each school district in the commonwealth shall provide instruction in
3434 4hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator as
3535 5part of the existing physical education or health education curriculum in grades 9 through 12.
3636 6The school district may select a no-cost, non-certification instructional program to meet this
3737 7requirement. The instructional program provided shall be modeled from an instructional program
3838 8established by a nationally recognized association with expertise in instruction in
3939 9cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator and include a
4040 10hands-on learning component for each participating student. Each public high school student
4141 11shall be required to participate in the instructional program as a requirement for high school
4242 12graduation; provided, however, that no student shall be required to take part in the instructional 2 of 2
4343 13program if (i) a licensed physician certifies in writing that such participation would be injurious
4444 14to the student; or (ii) a parent or guardian for the student submits a written objection to the
4545 15student’s participation in the instructional program."
4646 16 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on September 1, 2025.
