30 | 30 | | 1 Section 15A of Chapter 265 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting at the |

32 | 32 | | 3 (e) Whoever commits assault with a dangerous weapon by discharging a firearm, large |

33 | 33 | | 4capacity weapon, rifle, shotgun, sawed-off shotgun or machine gun, as defined in section 121 of |

34 | 34 | | 5chapter 140, with the intent to physically harm a police officer, special police officer, state or |

35 | 35 | | 6federal law enforcement officer, firefighter, officer or employee of the department of correction, |

36 | 36 | | 7officer or employee of a sheriff's department, officer or employee of a jail or officer or employee |

37 | 37 | | 8of a house of correction in the performance of the officer’s duties, shall be punished by |

38 | 38 | | 9imprisonment in a state prison for no less than 25 years and up to any term of years. |
