2727 An Act relative to the protection of police officers.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 Section 15A of Chapter 265 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting at the
3131 2end the following new subsection:-
3232 3 (e) Whoever commits assault with a dangerous weapon by discharging a firearm, large
3333 4capacity weapon, rifle, shotgun, sawed-off shotgun or machine gun, as defined in section 121 of
3434 5chapter 140, with the intent to physically harm a police officer, special police officer, state or
3535 6federal law enforcement officer, firefighter, officer or employee of the department of correction,
3636 7officer or employee of a sheriff's department, officer or employee of a jail or officer or employee
3737 8of a house of correction in the performance of the officer’s duties, shall be punished by
3838 9imprisonment in a state prison for no less than 25 years and up to any term of years.
