| 28 | 28 | | 1 Chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 244, the |

| 29 | 29 | | 2following section:- |

| 30 | 30 | | 3 Section 245. The department of public health shall conduct a review and issue a report on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 4variants of the apolipoprotein L 1 (APOL 1) gene associated with increased risk of end-stage |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 5renal disease. The report must include: |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 6 (1) Recommendations on how to increase awareness for APOL 1, including screening |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 7and genetic testing; |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 8 (2) An analysis of strategies and funding to increase screening and genetic testing for |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 9APOL 1 in the commonwealth; and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 10 (3) Other relevant information or issues identified by the department. 2 of 2 |
