No. 1630 By Mr. Tarr, a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 1630) of Bruce E. Tarr for legislation to provide municipalities to opt out of fluoridation treatments. Public Health. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Fourth General Court (2025-2026) _______________ An Act relative to opting out of fluoridation. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Mass General Laws Chapter 111, Section 8C is hereby amended by inserting at the end 2the following:-- "Any town, city or district with artificial fluoridation programs in effect can end 3those programs with a local ordinance banning fluoridation via the local legislative body, i.e. 4City Council, Town Meeting or Water Commissioners. That process is initiated by the 5presentation of a petition of at least ten registered voters to the legislative body. Moreover, if the 6water superintendent or water commissioners with responsibility for ensuring water safety 7determines that in their opinion, the water fluoridation program is posing a risk to consumers, 8workers, infrastructure or environment, they can suspend fluoridation programs at will."
