2525 An Act to update and standardize transit definitions in the Commonwealth.
2626 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2727 of the same, as follows:
2828 1 Section 3A of Chapter 40A is herby amended by adding the following subsection:
2929 2 (d) For the purposes of this section and any guidelines promulgated thereunder, the
3030 3following terms shall have the following meanings unless the context clearly requires otherwise,
3131 4 “Bus station” means a bus rapid transit stop serving as a point of embarkation along a bus
3232 5rapid transit corridor for a high-capacity bus-based rapid transport system accompanied by a
3333 6sheltered platform, terminal or other fixed infrastructure serving as a point of embarkation or any
3434 7stop along the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s silver line.
3535 8 “Bus stop,” a point of embarkation along a bus rapid transit corridor not accompanied by
3636 9a sheltered platform.
3737 10 “Commuter rail station” means any MBTA commuter rail station with year-round, rather
3838 11than intermittent, seasonal, or event-based, service, including stations under construction but not 2 of 2
3939 12including existing stations at which service will be terminated, or permanently reduced below
4040 13regular year-round service.
4141 14 “Rapid Transit Station” an MBTA subway station or MBTA Silver Line Rapid Bus
4242 15Transit Station.
4343 16 “Rapid transit community” means an MBTA community that has within its borders at
4444 17least 100 acres of developable station area associated with one or more subway stations, or
4545 18MBTA Silver Line bus rapid transit stations.
4646 19 “Subway station” means a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority station with
4747 20uninterrupted service running inbound-to or outbound-from either Park Street Station,
4848 21Government Center Station, Downtown Crossing Station, or State Street Station as part of the
4949 22Red, Blue, Orange, or Green Lines.
5050 23 “Trolley Station” means an MBTA station providing connecting service to a subway
5151 24station but does not provide direct service either inbound-to or outbound-from Park Street
5252 25Station, Government Center Station, Downtown Crossing Station, or State Street Station.
