2727 An Act relative to billboard permitting.
2828 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2929 of the same, as follows:
3030 1 SECTION 1. Section 29 of Chapter 93 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby
3131 2amended by striking the word “may” in line 10 and inserting thereof the following word:-
3232 3“shall”.
3333 4 SECTION 2. Said Section 29 is hereby amended by striking the word “may” in line 11
3434 5and inserting thereof the following word:- “shall”.
3535 6 SECTION 3. Said Section 29 is hereby amended by striking the sentence beginning in
3636 7line 16 and inserting in place thereof the following sentences:-
3737 8 “No permit, whether permanent or temporary, for a billboard, sign or other advertising
3838 9device shall be issued unless (i) written notice of the application therefor stating the proposed
3939 10location shall have been given at least sixty days earlier to the city or town in which the proposed 2 of 2
4040 11billboard, sign or other advertising device is to be located, as well as to residential abutters
4141 12within 2500 feet of the proposed location, and (ii) the applicant has included plans in their
4242 13application to finance and install light blocking technology if the proposed billboard, sign, or
4343 14other advertising device employs electronic light systems.”
4444 15 SECTION 4. This act shall go into effect upon its passage.
