27 | 27 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |

28 | 28 | | of the same, as follows: |

29 | 29 | | 1 The department of elementary and secondary education shall establish a written policy |
---|
30 | 30 | | 2prohibiting the use of wireless communication devices in K-12 public schools by students during |
---|
31 | 31 | | 3the school day unless authorized by a principal. The policy shall include: |
---|
32 | 32 | | 4 (a) one or more secure, designated areas where students may store their cellular |
---|
33 | 33 | | 5telephones during the school day, which may include student lockers. |
---|
34 | 34 | | 6 (b) one or more methods for parents and guardians of students to readily contact students |
---|
35 | 35 | | 7during the school day and provide for written notification of parents and guardians of these |
---|
36 | 36 | | 8methods at the beginning of each school year. |
---|
37 | 37 | | 9 (c) The department of elementary and secondary education regulations shall provide for |
---|
38 | 38 | | 10medical exceptions and other appropriate exigencies. |
