2626 An Act to promote phone free schools.
2727 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
2828 of the same, as follows:
2929 1 The department of elementary and secondary education shall establish a written policy
3030 2prohibiting the use of wireless communication devices in K-12 public schools by students during
3131 3the school day unless authorized by a principal. The policy shall include:
3232 4 (a) one or more secure, designated areas where students may store their cellular
3333 5telephones during the school day, which may include student lockers.
3434 6 (b) one or more methods for parents and guardians of students to readily contact students
3535 7during the school day and provide for written notification of parents and guardians of these
3636 8methods at the beginning of each school year.
3737 9 (c) The department of elementary and secondary education regulations shall provide for
3838 10medical exceptions and other appropriate exigencies.
