2828 An Act requiring instruction in CPR and the use of defibrillators for high school graduation.
2929 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
3030 of the same, as follows:
3131 1 The second paragraph of section 1L of chapter 69 of the General Laws, as appearing in
3232 2the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding, in line 30, after the word
3333 3“resuscitation” the following:−
3434 4 and the use of automatic external defibrillators. Instruction in cardiopulmonary
3535 5resuscitation and the use of automatic external defibrillators must be the most current national
3636 6evidence−based Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines and incorporate psychomotor skills
3737 7development into the instruction. “Psychomotor skills” is defined as the use of hands-on
3838 8practicing and skills testing to support cognitive learning. A licensed teacher shall not be
3939 9required to be a certified trainer of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to facilitate, provide or 2 of 2
4040 10oversee such instruction for non-certification. Courses which result in a certification being
4141 11earned are required to be taught by an authorized CPR/AED instructor.
