BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 13 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 14 Article – Health – General 15 18–508. 16 (A) IN THIS SECTION, “COMMUNITY –BASED HEALTH FAIR ” MEANS AN EVENT 17 THAT SEEKS TO PROMOTE PUB LIC HEALTH THAT IS SPONSORED BY : 18 (1) THE FEDERAL GOVERNMEN T, THE STATE, OR A LOCAL 19 GOVERNMENT ; 20 (2) A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATI ON THAT IS EXEMPT FROM TAXATION 21 UNDER § 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE; OR 22 2 SENATE BILL 883 (3) A NONPROFIT COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION THAT HA S THE STATED 1 PURPOSE OF PROMOTING PUBLIC HEA LTH. 2 (B) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL AUTH ORIZE A PERSON WHO I S QUALIFIED TO 3 OFFER OR PERFORM LAB ORATORY TESTING IN THE STATE, AS DETERMINED BY THE 4 DEPARTMENT , TO OFFER AND PERFORM LABORATORY TESTING F OR DETECTING 5 SICKLE CELL DISEASE AT A COMMUNITY –BASED HEALTH FAIR IN THE STATE. 6 (C) A PERSON WHO IS AUTHOR IZED TO PERFORM TEST ING UNDER 7 SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION MAY PROVID E INFORMATION ON AND RESOURCES 8 FOR LIVING WITH SICK LE CELL DISEASE WHIL E PERFORMING TESTING AT A 9 COMMUNITY –BASED HEALTH FAIR . 10 (D) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ADOP T REGULATIONS TO CAR RY OUT THIS 11 SECTION. 12 SECTION 2.
