A BILL ENTITLED 
 
AN ACT concerning 1 
 
State Board of Social Work Examiners – Continuing Education Programs – 2 
Approval of Authorized Sponsors 3 
 
FOR the purpose of requiring the State Board of Social Work Examiners to establish a 4 
process to review and approve certain persons as authorized sponsors of social work 5 
continuing education programs, subject to a certain requirement; and generally 6 
relating to authorized sponsors of continuing education programs for social workers. 7 
 
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 8

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 13 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 14 
 
Article – Health Occupations 15 
 
19–205. 16 
 
 (A) In addition to the powers and duties set forth elsewhere in this title, the Board 17 
has the following powers and duties: 18 
 
 (1) To adopt rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this title; 19 
 
 (2) To adopt a code of ethics; 20 
 
 (3) To adopt an official seal; 21  2 	HOUSE BILL 1120  
 
 
 
 (4) To hold hearings and keep records and minutes necessary for the 1 
orderly conduct of business; 2 
 
 (5) To issue a list annually of all currently licensed social workers and all 3 
social workers disciplined by the Board in the past year in accordance with § 4–333 of the 4 
General Provisions Article; and 5 
 
 (6) To investigate an alleged violation of this title. 6 
 
 (B) (1) SUBJECT TO PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS SUBSECTION , THE BOARD 7 
SHALL ESTABLISH A PR OCESS TO REVIEW AND APPROVE A PERSON SEEKING TO 8 
BECOME AN AUTHORIZED SPONSOR OF CONTINUIN G EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR 9 
SOCIAL WORKERS RENEW ING A LICENSE UNDER § 19–308 OF THIS TITLE. 10 
 
 (2) THE AUTHORIZED SPONSO R APPROVAL PROCESS R EQUIRED 11 
UNDER PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION SHALL INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE 12 
PATHWAY FOR APPROVAL THAT DOES NOT REQUIR E AN APPLICANT TO HAVE THE 13 
APPROVAL OF A NATIONA L OR REGIONAL ORGANI ZATION TO BE APPROVED BY TH E 14 
BOARD AS AN AUTHORIZE D SPONSOR. 15 
 
 (3) THE BOARD SHALL ADOPT REG ULATIONS TO CARRY OUT THIS 16 
SUBSECTION. 17 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 18 
October 1, 2024. 19
