AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Motor Vehicles – School Vehicle Drivers – Medical Examinations 2 
 
FOR the purpose of establishing a regular time period within which a school vehicle driver 3 
is required to pass a medical examination; and generally relating to medical 4 
examinations for school vehicle drivers. 5 
 
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 6 
 Article – Transportation 7 
Section 16–816(a) 8 
 Annotated Code of Maryland 9 
 (2020 Replacement Volume and 2023 Supplement) 10 
 
 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 11 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 12 
 
Article – Transportation 13 
 
16–816. 14 
 
 (a) An individual may not drive a school vehicle on any highway in this State 15 
unless the individual: 16 
 
 (1) Passes an appropriate medical examination BEFORE EMPLOYMENT 17 
AND ONCE DURING EACH 2 YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT ; and 18 
 
 (2) For driving a school bus, has been issued a commercial driver’s license 19 
endorsed school bus. 20 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 21
