2020 FOR the purpose of authorizing certain members of the State Retirement and Pension 3
2121 System to transfer certain prior service into the State Police Retirement System; and 4

2525 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 7

2828 (a) In this section, “Local Fire and Police System” means the Local Fire and Police 9
2929 System established under Title 28 of the State Personnel and Pensions Article. 10

3131 (b) This section applies to an individual who: 11

3333 (1) is an active member of the State Police Retirement System; 12

3535 (2) is eligible for a vested benefit from the Local Fire and Police System; 13

3737 (3) is not an active member in the Local Fire and Police System; and 14

3939 (4) incurred a break in employment: 15

4141 (i) after ceasing employment in a position in which the individual 16
4242 was required to be a member in the Local Fire and Police System; and 17

4444 (ii) before beginning employment as a member of the State Police 18
4545 Retirement System. 19

4747 (c) Notwithstanding § 37–202(a) of the State Personnel and Pensions Article, an 20

5151 creditable service in the Local Fire and Police System to the State Police Retirement System 1
5252 in accordance with Title 37 of the State Personnel and Pensions Article. 2

5454 (d) An individual described under subsection (b) of this section shall make a 3
5555 request to transfer service in accordance with subsection (c) of this section: 4

5757 (1) on or before December 31, 2024; and 5

5959 (2) by submitting to the Board of Trustees for the State Retirement and 6
6060 Pension System a form provided by the State Retirement Agency for the purpose of electing 7
6161 to transfer service under this Act. 8

6363 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 9
6464 1, 2024. It shall remain effective for a period of 6 months and, at the end of December 31, 10
6565 2024, this Act, with no further action required by the General Assembly, shall be abrogated 11
6666 and of no further force and effect. 12
