BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 16 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 17 Article – Natural Resources 18 8–1901. 19 (a) In this part the following words have the meanings indicated. 20 (b) “Board” means the Board of Trustees of the Chesapeake Bay Trust. 21 (c) “Trust” means the Chesapeake Bay Trust. 22 2 SENATE BILL 329 8–1902. 1 There is a Chesapeake Bay Trust established to promote public awareness and 2 participation in the restoration and protection of the water quality and aquatic and land 3 resources of the Chesapeake Bay and other aquatic and land resources of the State. 4 8–1906. 5 The Trust shall have the powers and duties to: 6 (1) Solicit and accept any gift, grant, legacy, or endowment of money from 7 the federal government, State government, local government, or any private source in 8 furtherance of the Trust; 9 (2) Provide grants to nonprofit organizations, community associations, 10 civic groups, schools, or public agencies for citizen involvement projects; 11 (3) Develop projects for sponsorship by corporate and business 12 organizations or private individuals; 13 (4) Develop criteria for citizen involvement projects or corporate 14 sponsorship projects; 15 (5) Make, execute, and enter into any contract or other legal instrument; 16 (6) Receive appropriations as provided in the State budget; 17 (7) Lease and maintain an office at a place within the State the Trust 18 designates; 19 (8) Adopt bylaws for the regulation of its affairs and the conduct of its 20 business; 21 (9) Take any other action necessary to carry out the purposes of the Trust; 22 (10) Sue and be sued, but only to enforce contractual or similar agreements 23 with the Trust; [and] 24 (11) RETAIN OUTSIDE COUNSE L AS NECESSARY; AND 25 (12) Report annually to the Governor and, subject to § 2–1257 of the State 26 Government Article, to the General Assembly, its activities during the preceding year 27 together with any recommendations or requests deemed appropriate to further the 28 purposes of the Trust. 29 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 30 October 1, 2024. 31
