BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 11 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 12 Article – Education 13 6–106. 14 (a) (1) Each county board may use volunteer aides in school activities in its 15 county. 16 (2) A COUNTY BOARD MAY USE A CHAPLAIN AS A VOLUNTEER AIDE IN 17 SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE S UPPORT SERVICES TO S TUDENTS. 18 (b) A volunteer aide may not be used to supplant educational personnel but shall 19 be used to assist regular employees in their assignments. 20 (c) Each county superintendent shall establish guidelines for the use of volunteer 21 aides in the school system of the superintendent’s county. 22 2 SENATE BILL 612 (d) A volunteer aide is considered an agent of the county board for the limited 1 purposes of: 2 (1) Comprehensive liability insurance coverage under § 4–105 of this 3 article; and 4 (2) Workers’ compensation coverage under the Maryland Workers’ 5 Compensation Act. 6 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 7 1, 2024. 8
