AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Education – Safe Schools Fund – Grant Allocations  2 
 
FOR the purpose of authorizing the reallocation of grants from the Safe Schools Fund to 3 
local school systems that have fully expended their grant allocation and demonstrate 4 
unmet need within the same fiscal year; and generally relating to Safe Schools Fund 5 
grant allocations. 6

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 17 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 18 
 
Article – Education 19 
 
7–1501. 20 
 
 (a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated. 21 
 
 (f) “Fund” means the Safe Schools Fund. 22

 (g) (1) For fiscal year 2020 and each fiscal year thereafter, the Governor shall 2 
include in the annual budget bill an appropriation of $10,000,000 to the Fund for the 3 
purpose of providing grants to local school systems and local law enforcement agencies to 4 
assist in meeting the requirements of subsection (e) of this section. 5 
 
 (2) Grants provided under this subsection [shall]:  6 
 
 (I) SHALL be made to each local school system based on the number 7 
of schools in each school system in proportion to the total number of public schools in the 8 
State in the prior year; AND 9 
 
 (II) MAY BE REALLOCATED TO LOCAL SCHOOL SYST EMS THAT 10 
HAVE FULLY EXPENDED THEIR ALLOCATION AND DEMONSTRATE NEED WITHIN THE 11 
SAME FISCAL YEAR . 12 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 13 
1, 2025. 14
