AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Election Law – Gubernatorial Primary Election – Date 2 
 
FOR the purpose of altering the date for the statewide primary election in the year of the 3 
gubernatorial election; and generally relating to the date for primary elections. 4 
 
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 5 
 Article – Election Law 6 
Section 8–201 7 
 Annotated Code of Maryland 8 
 (2022 Replacement Volume and 2024 Supplement) 9 
 
 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 10 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 11 
 
Article – Election Law 12 
 
8–201. 13 
 
 (a) (1) There shall be a statewide primary election in every even–numbered 14 
year. 15 
 
 (2) A primary election shall be held: 16 
 
 (i) in the year in which the Governor is elected, on the [last] 17 
FOURTH Tuesday in June; and 18  2 	SENATE BILL 645  
 
 
 
 (ii) in the year in which the President of the United States is elected, 1 
on the fourth Tuesday in April. 2 
 
 (b) In Baltimore City, there shall be a primary election for municipal offices on 3 
the fourth Tuesday in April in the year in which the President of the United States is 4 
elected. 5 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 6 
October 1, 2025. 7
