43	43	(a) In this subtitle the following terms have the meanings indicated unless the 20
44	44	context of their use requires otherwise. 21

46	46	(f) (1) “Health care provider” means a hospital, a related institution as defined 22
47	47	in § 19–301 of the Health – General Article, a medical day care center, a hospice care 23
48	48	program, an assisted living program, a freestanding ambulatory care facility as defined in 24 2 SENATE BILL 681

51	51	§ 19–3B–01 of the Health – General Article, a physician, a physician assistant, an 1
52	52	osteopath, an optometrist, a chiropractor, a registered or licensed practical nurse, a dentist, 2
53	53	a podiatrist, a psychologist, a licensed certified social worker–clinical, AN EMPLOYEE , 3
54	54	AGENT, OR CONTRACTOR OF A H OSPITAL WHO IS LICEN SED, CERTIFIED, 4
55	55	REGISTERED, OR OTHERWISE AUTHORI ZED TO RENDER HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN 5
56	56	MARYLAND, and a physical therapist, licensed or authorized to provide one or more health 6
57	57	care services in Maryland. 7

59	59	(2) “Health care provider” does not include any nursing institution 8
60	60	conducted by and for those who rely upon treatment by spiritual means through prayer 9
61	61	alone in accordance with the tenets and practices of a recognized church or religious 10
62	62	denomination. 11

64	64	SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 12
