Page 1 - 132LR0425(01)1 2 held by the State for conservation or recreation purposes may not be reduced or its uses 3 substantially altered except on the vote of 2/3 of all members elected to each House. 4 5 the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 12, section 598-A; and 6 7 Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry may sell, lease or exchange lands with the approval 8 of the Legislature in accordance with the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 12, sections 1814, 9 1837 and 1851; now, therefore, be it 10 11 12 13 14 within the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry shall modify the deed that 15 conveyed Montpelier, the General Henry Knox Museum, including 4.2 acres, more or less, 16 of historic site land and related improvements, structures and historical collections, in the 17 Town of Thomaston, Knox County, to the Friends of Montpelier, a nonprofit corporation, 18 to remove the requirement that Montpelier be used for historic preservation and public 19 education purposes and remove the reversion clause specifying that, if the Friends of 20 Montpelier do not continue to use the building and the collections for public educational, 21 historic or cultural purposes, the building and collections will revert to the Bureau of Parks 22 and Lands. 23 24 This bill directs the Director of the Bureau of Parks and Lands within the Department 25 of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to modify the deed that conveyed Montpelier, 26 the General Henry Knox Museum in the Town of Thomaston, to the Friends of Montpelier 27 to remove the requirement that Montpelier be used for historic preservation and public 28 education purposes and remove the reversion clause specifying that, if the Friends of 29 Montpelier do not continue to use the building and collections for public educational, 30 historic or cultural purposes, the building and collections will revert to the Bureau of Parks 31 and Lands. 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31
