Page 1 - 132LR2322(01) 1 2 is enacted to read: 3 4 the contrary within Title 5, chapter 337, a school administrative unit may not adopt a policy 5 that permits a student to use a sanitary facility according to the student's gender identity if 6 that sanitary facility is designated for use by a sex that does not correspond to the student's 7 sex assigned at birth. 8 The Department of Education 9 shall update its rules as necessary to conform with the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, 10 section 6501, subsection 6. 11 12 This bill prohibits a school administrative unit from adopting a policy that permits a 13 student to use a school restroom according to the student's gender identity if that restroom 14 is designated for use by a sex that does not correspond to the student's sex assigned at birth. 15 The bill also directs the Department of Education to update its rules consistent with this 16 legislation. 12 13 14 15 16
