An Act to Adopt Eastern Daylight Time Year-round Contingent on 
Federal Approval

6 United States Code, Sections 260 to 267 except that the standard time year-round for the 
7 State is the time commonly known as eastern daylight time or eastern daylight saving time, 
8 referred to in this section as "eastern daylight time," if: federal law or regulation permits 
9 the year-round observation of eastern daylight time.
10 A.  Federal law permits the year-round observation of eastern daylight time; and
11 B.  All the states in the eastern time zone and the District of Columbia observe eastern 
12 daylight time year-round.

14 shall monitor whether the conditions condition under subsection 1, paragraphs A and B 
15 have has been met and provide public notice when each has been met. When both 
16 conditions the condition under subsection 1, paragraphs A and B have has been met, the 
17 Secretary of State shall issue a public notice announcing the effective date of year-round 
18 eastern daylight time as established in subsection 3.

22 Year-round eastern daylight time is effective on the next start date of eastern daylight time

27 Current law provides that the standard time year-round for the State is the time 
28 commonly known as eastern daylight time, if federal law permits the year-round 
29 observation of eastern daylight time and all the states in the eastern time zone and the 
30 District of Columbia observe eastern daylight time year-round. This bill removes the 
31 prerequisite that all the states in the eastern time zone and the District of Columbia observe 
32 eastern daylight time, which will allow Maine to observe eastern daylight time year-round 
33 if federal law or regulation permits it.
