Page 1 - 132LR1004(01) 1 2 is enacted to read: 3 4 As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the 5 following terms have the following meanings. 6 A. "Abortion" has the same meaning as in section 1598, subsection 2, paragraph A. 7 B. "Health care professional" has the same meaning as in section 1596, subsection 1, 8 paragraph C. 9 C. "Medication abortion" means an abortion resulting from the ingestion of a chemical 10 agent or drug. 11The following provisions apply to medication abortions. 12 A. A person may not purchase or obtain through online sources a chemical agent or 13 drug used for medication abortions. 14 B. A person opting to undergo a medication abortion must obtain a prescription from 15 a health care professional for a chemical agent or drug to be used for a medication 16 abortion, and that health care professional shall oversee the medication abortion in 17 person. 18 C. A health care professional overseeing a medication abortion shall inform the patient: 19 (1) Of the steps involved in the medication abortion; 20 (2) What the patient will experience following ingestion of the chemical agent or 21 drug for the medication abortion; 22 (3) Of any physical, emotional or spiritual risk of undergoing the medication 23 abortion; and 24 (4) Of any chemical agent, drug or other means by which the medication abortion 25 may be reversed. 26 27 This bill regulates medication abortions, which are abortions resulting from the 28 ingestion of a chemical agent or drug. The bill: 29 1. Prohibits purchasing or obtaining through online sources a chemical agent or drug 30 used for medication abortions; 31 2. Requires a person opting to undergo a medication abortion to obtain a chemical agent 32 or drug through a prescription from a licensed health care professional and requires that 33 licensed health care professional to oversee the abortion in person; and 34 3. Requires the licensed health care professional to inform the patient: 35 A. Of the physical steps involved in the medication abortion; 36 B. What the patient will experience as a result of ingesting the chemical agent or drug; 37 C. Of any physical, emotional or spiritual risks of undergoing the medication abortion; 38 and 27 28 Page 2 - 132LR1004(01) 1 D.
