1 | 1 | HOUSE BILL NO. 4241 A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1308c. the people of the state of michigan enact: Sec. 1308c. (1) The board of a school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of a public school academy shall ensure that each school building operated by the board or board of directors is equipped with at least 1 panic alarm for use in a school security emergency, including, but not limited to, a nonfire evacuation, a lockdown, or an active-shooter situation. The panic alarm described in this subsection must be directly linked to the local law enforcement agency that is designated as a first responder for the school building in which the panic alarm is included, and the panic alarm must be capable of immediately transmitting a signal or message to the local law enforcement agency upon its activation. (2) As used in this section: (a) "Panic alarm" means a silent security system signal generated by the manual activation, either virtually from a phone or computer system or nonvirtually, of a device or an alternative mechanism intended to communicate life-threatening or emergency situations that require a response from law enforcement to law enforcement. (b) "School building" means a building in which instruction takes place or where pupils are present during the school day. Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 4242 (request no. 00423'23 *) of the 102nd Legislature is enacted into law. | |
